Date: 2009-03-25 01:16 am (UTC)As for "The Prisoner of Zenda", the one and only reason to watch that movie is for the awesomeness on the villainous side. Nominal hero Ronald Colman is about as thrilling as a wet rag--but on the baddie side, you've got Evil Prince Raymond Massey and Hilariously Prissy Henchman Doug Fairbanks.
In other words, Snarky Blond Wickedness For The Win. :D
(Gah, can you tell I've just been reading Aspen's comics ramble? :Þ )

Date: 2009-03-25 03:41 am (UTC)I would never have guessed. :p
Rupert was totally an unexpected show-stealer even in the book.
I don't think about it much, but for some peculiar reason I *like* fair-haired men. A lot. I'm disgustingly typical in pretty much every other way - I'll fall for the hero I'm supposed to in nearly every story - but I definitely like blond hair. (Not that I dislike dark hair!) But there's Joel MacRae... and your own Danny Kaye... and many characters in various books o' mine.
If I were to be very analytical and pretty honest, I think I might have to do with the whole I-love-sunshine-and-light-and-openness thing that seems to show up in so many of my likes. I've *always* liked blond hair. It's hardly ever the same on anyone, and even on one person it's made up of so many different shades. It's just... light.
/self-absorbed navel-gazing :p

Date: 2009-03-26 01:05 am (UTC)James Cagney and Danny Kaye--and my sole heroine, Rebecca Fogg!--are all redheads. I'm sure that says a great deal. ;D Otherwise, it's dark-haired guys all the way for me. The only blond chaps I can think of that I have any interest in whatsoever are Leslie Howard and the younger Fairbanks. (And possibly Raymond Massey, but I'm not sure whether his hair was blond or just light brown; and in any case, with him it isn't about any kind of attractiveness, but a pure acting-skillz squee. *g*)
I must concede that Joan Blondell has to be my favorite actress, but that's because of a certain fairly obvious association. ;) I'm also fond of spunky Glenda Farrell, and Lauren Bacall within limits. Otherwise, brunettes and redheads get the nod from me again--Aline McMahon, Margaret Lindsay, Anne Dvorak, Myrna Loy, Katharine Hepburn.
