jordannamorgan: Claude Rains as Maximus, "The Clairvoyant". (Clairvoyant)

[livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree has inspired me with the idea of making humorous presidential-campaign icons featuring classic film characters. Here are my first ten, from her suggestions and my own ideas. They include James Cagney and friends, Danny Kaye, William Powell/Myrna Loy, and Claude Rains.

Our Vintage Party candidates... )

Does anyone have any suggestions for more icons like these? I'll take both single characters and candidate/running mate duos. (No political party references though, please. I want the icons to be universally appealing.)
jordannamorgan: James Cagney. (Irish)

Here's Captain's Orders. Because I want that hat, and because James has such lovely eyes.

The latest bit of Cagney desktop art: Nothing to Lose, with which I am fairly pleased.

I eked out a somewhat simple Roaring Twenties wallpaper called Smile today. I had a more specific idea than usual for this one, and it pretty much turned out as I envisioned it.
jordannamorgan: James Cagney as Eddie Bartlett and Humphrey Bogart as George Hally, "The Roaring Twenties". (Gangsters)

Although I should be doing a batch of icons, I'm still enjoying too much the different challenges of wallpapers. Therefore, my latest achievements in that area.

Biff & Amy is a quaint little confection from The Strawberry Blonde. I'm getting rather proud of my colorizing skills, I am.

Stupid is sort of a Roaring Twenties Eddie/Panama shipper item, inspired by the lyrics to the Sarah McLachlan song of the same name. (That 'ship would be worthy of fanfiction. I sort of wonder if Panama realized she was ultimately the architect of Eddie's corruption and downfall--and thus, indirectly, a lot of other deaths. After all, she was the one who got him into bootlegging in the first place. That said, once he did become the guy he did, he'd have been far better off with her... But I digress.)

New Cagney wallpaper. "Redemption" was inspired by comments [livejournal.com profile] roses_for_ann made about spiritual symbolism in The Roaring Twenties. I spent time over three days perfecting it--one of those pieces that just wasn't right until the last touch that suddenly made it finished. It isn't even quite what I had in mind, but I like it.

Yes, I'm still enthralled with the fact that I have my graphics-making computer back. I made a whole heap o' wallpapers today, all from The Roaring Twenties screencaps by [livejournal.com profile] roses_for_ann--because any film that can get James Cagney into both a WWI uniform and a sea captain's outfit is art in its highest form. *g*

Roaring Twenties 1: The most complex of the lot, really a confounded busy piece of work. Colonel Klink nearly crashed over this labor-intensive creation, but the final product was well worth it.

Roaring Twenties 2: Sort of a sequel to my recent Angels With Dirty Faces collage, capturing yet another downward spiral by a Cagney character. Are the colors too much? I made a toned-down version, and I'm undecided about it.

Masterminds: Cagney and Bogart, looking (or trying not to look) as if they've been caught in the middle of plotting something. This one was comparatively simple, and I'm afraid it looks a lot like another wallpaper I did recently.

Captains: Another image of those two worthy old salts, imprinted with a logbook and compass and aged with a coat of salt spray. I wasn't sure this one was going to turn into anything good, but I love the end result. Incidentally, Cags' cap sends me almost as much as the legendary Giacomo hat.

Roaring Twenties Bogart: yes, I even made one with "the other guy" all on his lonesome. This is a gift for [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree--that is, if she can forgive the incorrigible tongue-in-cheekness of a wallpaper that emulates an autograph lovingly tucked into a teenage fangirl's scrapbook. *g* (I have a PNG copy if you prefer.)

I have done some icons lately as well, although it'll take me a while to accumulate enough to post. In a way, I don't know where to start with all the new material I gathered in the months I was Klink-less. I've been chipping away at a Cagney mood theme as well, but some moods are so difficult to find good images for.

After three months of exile, Colonel Klink rides again! To celebrate my regained access to my main stash of graphics resources, I indulged in one of my therapeutic mornings of music and PaintShop, and produced four new desktop wallpapers starring James Cagney.

City For Conquest - A pretty, pensive scene from the film of the same name.

Smart and Tough - A bookish Cagney from G-Men.

Two-Gun Cagney - A great publicity pose from The Roaring Twenties.
