Finally! Some of these were tied up in icontests, and had to wait quite a while for posting. Anyway, thirty-four classic icons, including Veronica Lake [9]; Fredric March [8]; Charles Laughton [7]; Jean Arthur [5]; Boris Karloff as Frankenstein [2]; Humphrey Bogart & Claude Rains [1]; Leslie Howard [1]; and Allen Jenkins [1].

This way to the odd lot... )

I felt like writing a tutorial, so you get a tutorial. *g* Recently I've come across remarks by some very talented icon makers who say they hate working with black-and-white images, so I thought my experience with classic-film B&W might be useful to someone. If this gets a good reaction, I may write more along these lines from time to time.

Forty-five classic film icons, starring: Joan Crawford [15]; James Cagney [9]; Joel McCrea [4]; Bette Davis [3]; Claude Rains [3]; Danny Kaye [3]; Humphrey Bogart [2]; George Sanders [1]; Fredric March [1]; Frank McHugh [1]; Allen Jenkins [1]; Carole Lombard [1]; and Asta the terrier [1].

You'd be surprised what I think I can get away with. )

Furthermore, we have one wallpaper, featuring James Cagney (along with George Raft, Stanley Ridges, Maxie Rosenbloom, and others) in Each Dawn I Die. It was previously posted to [livejournal.com profile] jamescagney.

I've been producing so many icons lately that you're going to see at least a few batches in the near future. To start with, here's a little post-Valentine candy featuring Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. There are five icons of each of them separately, and ten of them together.

The beauty and the beast... sorry, couldn't resist. )

My goodness, what a month. *g* Minus all the Cagneyness I've already posted, here is January's icon haul. Fifty-five icons, starring:

Katharine Hepburn [11]; Norma Shearer [8]; Charlie Chaplin [7]; Doris Day [6]; William Powell [6]; Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall [4]; Rudolph Valentino [4]; Sidney Poitier [3]; Greer Garson [3]; Rita Hayworth [2]; and Red Skelton [1].

Oh, we're going to talk about me, are we? Goody. )

Greta Garbo fans should have a treat next month, if not sooner--because if I keep up this pace, I'll have to unload my icons more often! And for the X-Men fans, I'll probably go ahead and dispense with a Xavier-Magneto set within a week or so, when the challenge concludes.

I made no X-Men icons during the very busy month of October, but I did manage to eke out forty classic film icons. Coming from me, you can be sure there's plenty of leftover Halloween candy in this batch. *g*

Contents: [8] Mary Pickford; [3] Myrna Loy; [4] Deborah Kerr; [6] Tyrone Power; [9] Boris Karloff; [4] Frankenstein; [2] Bela Lugosi (Dracula); [1] The Wolf Man; [1] Humphrey Bogart (The Return of Doctor X); [1] Peter Cushing; [1] Arsenic and Old Lace.

When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you... )

There should be more Tyrone Power and Deborah Kerr icons in the future. I still have several bases for each that I've been too busy to get to yet.

I've hit a stride with my icons; out of the thirty-eight in this selection that were entered in icontests, roughly half of them placed. The award banners are now on display in my trophy case. Including some previously unreleased extras, there are a total of 53 icons here: 40 classics and 13 X-Men. Enjoy!

Classics: 9 Grace Kelly, 6 Humphrey Bogart, 4 Gary Cooper, 4 Olivia De Havilland, 4 My Man Godfrey, 3 James Cagney, 2 Cary Grant, 2 Barry Fitzgerald, 2 Anna May Wong, 1 Fredric March, 1 Danny Kaye, 1 Pat O'Brien, 1 Audrey Hepburn )

X-Men: 7 Wolverine, 2 Beast, 1 Cyclops, 1 Magneto, 1 Storm, 1 Angel )

I've only done a handful of icons so far this month, but I can tell you already that my next assortment will include Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, the subjects of a current icontest challenge. Wish me luck with them! *g*

Here we have forty icons--thirty classic stars and ten X-Men. Most of them were made for icontests, although not all were entered. There are a few award winners here that I'm reasonably proud of. *g*

Standard rules: please credit, comment, yada yada.

The Classics: Cagney, Bogart, Stewart, Howard, Bogart/Bacall, March/Shearer, Powell/Loy )

The X-Men: Deathstryke, Jean/Scott, Logan, Storm, Jubilee )
jordannamorgan: Frank McHugh as Francis, "Footlight Parade". (It Can't Be Done)

On the last Sunday of every month, I will be posting the month's roundup of challenge icons, along with "challenge rejects" that I made for icontests but chose not to submit (and perhaps any other loose icons I have on hand). Most of them will probably be classic film-related in the foreseeable future, but just about anything might turn up.

Since this is the first such post, all of the icons I've made for [livejournal.com profile] classicicontest are here, as well as some recent strays that I missed in my backposting. But amidst all of the old news (at least for some of you), there are a few icons here that have never been displayed before.

Nothing like an update to the Cagney gallery at Simply Classics to get the creative juices flowing. Here are twelve icons featuring James, his dames, and just a bit of Humphrey Bogart. The pairing icons are probably some early Valentine's Day fluff; but on the whole, I think this is one of the prettiest batches of icons I've produced.

By the way, I should note that the first icon is mainly an attempt to break Aspen's brain by disguising Jimmy as Philip Marlowe. *g*

And because I'm feeling pifflative, the icons are accompanied by highly opinionated commentary. )

jordannamorgan: Danny Kaye as Walter Mitty, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty". (RAF!Mitty)

Phillip Marlowe is [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree's fault. (Well, she and the background texture I found that screamed "cynoptimism"--although for originality's sake, I mangled that beyond all recognition.) I sincerely hope my use of two L's in the first name is correct. I'm somewhat annoyed that the edges didn't turn out more crisp, but there it is.

I could blame Love Story on Aspen too, but it also comes from the fact that Bogart/Bacall is the one real-life celebrity couple I genuinely like. It wasn't nearly as simple as it might look, but I'm very happy with the end result.

A Game of Chess is another Bogart wallpaper, or rather a Casablanca Rick&Louis item. Now, other than having the effect of a nicely vintage newspaper scan, this one probably doesn't look like much--unless you realize what wasn't in the original picture. (Here's a hint: it was inspired by one of [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree's icons.) This is my first halfway decent attempt at such an insertion, and it's still far from perfect, but let's see what the rest of you think. I hope it's at least good for a chuckle.

Then there's God Bless America. No, it's not Independence Day--it's just me finally achieving my ambition of creating a really patriotic Cagney wallpaper. Prodigious thanks to [livejournal.com profile] roses_for_ann for scanning a thoroughly Adorable picture from Yankee Doodle Dandy.
jordannamorgan: Bela Lugosi as Dracula. (Bela)

Four new wallpapers tonight. The Body Snatcher, Frankenstein, another Frankenstein... and something extra-speshul for [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree which will probably get me clubbed upside the head.

A couple more Humphrey Bogart wallpapers for [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree. The first is Night, which I'm pleased with. The second is Butterfly, which is a bit odd, but sort of pretty.

Bogart 2 is another wallpaper for [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree, more or less in honor of the impending autumn (although it comes later for me than for those of you not living in an outer suburb of Hades). Klink ate my first effort at colorizing it, which was probably a little better, but at least I had saved the base version beforehand.

My treatment for agitation, as usual, is digital art. Three wallpapers today: one Cagney, and a couple more Bogie gifts for [livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree, which I think are both a vast improvement over the last one.

Bogart 1 is a shiny minimalist pastel. I really like how it turned out; it looks more like a painting than a photo. Protected by Bogart is one I'm not quite as pleased with artistically--but I love the idea of it. I'll definitely have to do a Cagney one on the same theme.

Then, of course, we have The Public Enemy, with Jamesey as the incredibly cute but disturbing Tom Powers.
