For the [community profile] fan_flashworks prompt of "Shoulder", I chose to create a set of icons featuring bare-shouldered classic actresses.

The set includes six actresses in eight icons. )

Just clearing out about half of my large cache of classic icons waiting to be posted. All of the icons below have been previously seen on this journal as texture examples, but this post compiles them for more convenient browsing. Featured actors are Fredric March, Ann Sheridan, Carole Lombard, Basil Rathbone + Nigel Bruce (Sherlock Holmes movies), Audrey Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, and Olivia de Havilland.

Thirty icons in all )

Two new icon texture sets for October: a small but appropriately spooky set of a dozen light spots, and the latest fifty-texture installment in the ScratchGrunge series.

You'd be surprised what I think I can get away with. )

Furthermore, we have one wallpaper, featuring James Cagney (along with George Raft, Stanley Ridges, Maxie Rosenbloom, and others) in Each Dawn I Die. It was previously posted to [livejournal.com profile] jamescagney.

Well, I promised some Abbott & Costello icons in this batch, but I'm afraid the moderator of the icontest they were entered in has gone absent. (Hopefully she's alright!) I was really hoping to see how they would place, so I'm going to wait another month and see if she returns to put the challenge through its vote. If not, I will definitely post them in early September.

In the meantime, we have forty-eight icons: (11) Jimmy Stewart; (8) Carole Lombard; (7) Joan Blondell; (6) Gene Tierney; (4) Sydney Greenstreet; (2) Boris Karloff; (2) Audrey Hepburn; (2) Margaret Lindsay; (1) Vivien Leigh; (1) Danny Kaye; (1) Leslie Howard; (1) Edward G. Robinson; (1) Basil Rathbone; (1) Vampyra. Sorry, no X-Men icons this time around--due mostly to a lack of interesting challenges in those communities in the last month.

If it seems like a lot of girls... it is. That's what I got to work with. )

I've hit a stride with my icons; out of the thirty-eight in this selection that were entered in icontests, roughly half of them placed. The award banners are now on display in my trophy case. Including some previously unreleased extras, there are a total of 53 icons here: 40 classics and 13 X-Men. Enjoy!

Classics: 9 Grace Kelly, 6 Humphrey Bogart, 4 Gary Cooper, 4 Olivia De Havilland, 4 My Man Godfrey, 3 James Cagney, 2 Cary Grant, 2 Barry Fitzgerald, 2 Anna May Wong, 1 Fredric March, 1 Danny Kaye, 1 Pat O'Brien, 1 Audrey Hepburn )

X-Men: 7 Wolverine, 2 Beast, 1 Cyclops, 1 Magneto, 1 Storm, 1 Angel )

I've only done a handful of icons so far this month, but I can tell you already that my next assortment will include Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, the subjects of a current icontest challenge. Wish me luck with them! *g*

Today I present ten iconological specimens: five each of Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and My Man Godfrey (Carole Lombard/William Powell). I'm very happy with some of these. They all required a fair amount of work, so I'd really appreciate comments, even if you don't take any of them.
