Happy New Year, everyone!

Here's a long-overdue batch of icons: a number of my favorite classic stars reading books and newspapers. This includes James Cagney, Claude Rains, Leslie Howard, Fredric March, Peter Cushing, William Powell, Bela Lugosi, and Vincent Price.

The novel is mightier than the script... )

Forty-two icons this month, starring: Cary Grant [10--also including Kate Hepburn and Grace Kelly]; Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers [8]; Dick Powell [8--also including Ruby Keeler]; Alice Faye [6]; Joan Blondell [5]; Abbott and Costello [1]; Danny Kaye [1]; Fredric March/Clara Bow [1]; William Powell/Myrna Loy [1]; Errol Flynn/Olivia de Havilland [1].

Sweetness and sass )

By the way, I thought I should give notice that my iconage for this month may be less prolific. I've lately been feeling an urge to write instead of playing around in PaintShop, so hopefully I can put some time toward striking at my literary aspirations while the iron is hot. *g*

My goodness, what a month. *g* Minus all the Cagneyness I've already posted, here is January's icon haul. Fifty-five icons, starring:

Katharine Hepburn [11]; Norma Shearer [8]; Charlie Chaplin [7]; Doris Day [6]; William Powell [6]; Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall [4]; Rudolph Valentino [4]; Sidney Poitier [3]; Greer Garson [3]; Rita Hayworth [2]; and Red Skelton [1].

Oh, we're going to talk about me, are we? Goody. )

Greta Garbo fans should have a treat next month, if not sooner--because if I keep up this pace, I'll have to unload my icons more often! And for the X-Men fans, I'll probably go ahead and dispense with a Xavier-Magneto set within a week or so, when the challenge concludes.

My monthly random assortment of icons should be posted soon. In the meantime, here are two movie-specific batches: twelve from Here Comes the Navy (1934), and fourteen from Libeled Lady (1936). The latter are by request; I apologize for taking so long, and that the quality of them is not nearly as good as I'd like. It was actually quite hard to dig up pictures from the movie, and those I did find were not exactly ideal for icon-making. However, I do have some screencaps for the request of Rear Window, which I will also get to when I can. :)

Here Comes the Navy: James Cagney, Frank McHugh, and Pat O'Brien )

Libeled Lady: William Powell, Myrna Loy, Jean Harlow, and Spencer Tracy )

While I'm posting, here are three wallpapers I posted at [livejournal.com profile] jamescagney in honor of Jimmy Cagney's birthday a couple of weeks ago.

I've hit a stride with my icons; out of the thirty-eight in this selection that were entered in icontests, roughly half of them placed. The award banners are now on display in my trophy case. Including some previously unreleased extras, there are a total of 53 icons here: 40 classics and 13 X-Men. Enjoy!

Classics: 9 Grace Kelly, 6 Humphrey Bogart, 4 Gary Cooper, 4 Olivia De Havilland, 4 My Man Godfrey, 3 James Cagney, 2 Cary Grant, 2 Barry Fitzgerald, 2 Anna May Wong, 1 Fredric March, 1 Danny Kaye, 1 Pat O'Brien, 1 Audrey Hepburn )

X-Men: 7 Wolverine, 2 Beast, 1 Cyclops, 1 Magneto, 1 Storm, 1 Angel )

I've only done a handful of icons so far this month, but I can tell you already that my next assortment will include Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, the subjects of a current icontest challenge. Wish me luck with them! *g*
jordannamorgan: James Cagney as Eddie Bartlett and Humphrey Bogart as George Hally, "The Roaring Twenties". (Gangsters)

Here we have forty icons--thirty classic stars and ten X-Men. Most of them were made for icontests, although not all were entered. There are a few award winners here that I'm reasonably proud of. *g*

Standard rules: please credit, comment, yada yada.

The Classics: Cagney, Bogart, Stewart, Howard, Bogart/Bacall, March/Shearer, Powell/Loy )

The X-Men: Deathstryke, Jean/Scott, Logan, Storm, Jubilee )
jordannamorgan: Claude Rains as Maximus, "The Clairvoyant". (Clairvoyant)

[livejournal.com profile] beloved_tree has inspired me with the idea of making humorous presidential-campaign icons featuring classic film characters. Here are my first ten, from her suggestions and my own ideas. They include James Cagney and friends, Danny Kaye, William Powell/Myrna Loy, and Claude Rains.

Our Vintage Party candidates... )

Does anyone have any suggestions for more icons like these? I'll take both single characters and candidate/running mate duos. (No political party references though, please. I want the icons to be universally appealing.)
jordannamorgan: Frank McHugh as Francis, "Footlight Parade". (It Can't Be Done)

On the last Sunday of every month, I will be posting the month's roundup of challenge icons, along with "challenge rejects" that I made for icontests but chose not to submit (and perhaps any other loose icons I have on hand). Most of them will probably be classic film-related in the foreseeable future, but just about anything might turn up.

Since this is the first such post, all of the icons I've made for [livejournal.com profile] classicicontest are here, as well as some recent strays that I missed in my backposting. But amidst all of the old news (at least for some of you), there are a few icons here that have never been displayed before.

jordannamorgan: William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles, "The Thin Man". (Thin Man)

More Thin Man wallpapers, although none are as elaborate as the one I did last week. True Love is my favorite of these three; I just love that picture. Perfect Couple turned out better than I expected at first. Powell & Loy is what it is--I'm actually getting a bit bored with starrysparkle stuff, even though it always works well.

Today I present ten iconological specimens: five each of Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and My Man Godfrey (Carole Lombard/William Powell). I'm very happy with some of these. They all required a fair amount of work, so I'd really appreciate comments, even if you don't take any of them.

I was going to be a good girl and settle down to write... but then [livejournal.com profile] hildy suggested I try my hand at some Thin Man icons. (Which was timely, since I just watched part of the TCM marathon of all six films two nights ago.) The pictures I turned up weren't entirely cooperative with my efforts, but I think I managed a few decent items.

By the way, how IS your father's side? )
